Into the snow safely by coach

A ski trip by bus means: a long journey, winter weather and lots of equipment. With Busly you only book bus operators who regularly run ski trips and rely on winter tyres, snow chains and experienced drivers on alpine passes. For skis and snowboards there are buses with a roof box or trailer, and for journeys lasting several hours a second driver or a planned break ensures you arrive safely and relaxed. You see a fixed price instantly and book directly or compare several offers.

How to nail the ski trip logistics

Plan equipment, driving times and winter weather properly – so the group and gear get into the snow and back safely.

  1. 01

Book early – winter season is peak season

Ski trips cluster in the winter holidays and on weekends from January to March – buses sell out fast then. Enquire at least 6–8 weeks ahead. Watch out for transparent prices including tolls, vignettes (e.g. Austria, Switzerland) and the roof box.

  2. 02

    Report the equipment precisely

Count ski and snowboard sets exactly – this determines whether a roof box is enough or a trailer is needed. Mention bulky gear (sledges, lots of boards) in advance. Allow time for loading and unloading the roof box; with a large group this takes a while.

  3. 03

    Calculate driving times realistically

On journeys over 4.5 hours at a stretch breaks are mandatory; over 9 hours total a second driver or an overnight stop is required. Factor in winter weather and possible traffic on the access roads to the ski resorts – plan a buffer for arrival.

  4. 04

Communicate meeting point and departure time

Set a central meeting point with enough room to load the equipment. Share the departure time early and plan a 15-minute buffer for latecomers – loading takes longer with equipment than you'd think.

  5. 05

    Clarify standby on site

Does the bus stay on site during the ski days or drive back? For multi-day camps it's often cheaper to have the bus and driver stay overnight at the destination than to drive the whole route twice.

What really matters on ski trips

What really matters on ski trips
  • Mid-week saves a lot: Weekend slots in the ski season cost 15–25% more. If you're flexible and travel during the week, you pay considerably less – and sit in less traffic on the access roads.

  • Plan for wet equipment: After a day of skiing everything is wet. Bring rubbish bags and blankets for the return to protect the seats – otherwise a cleaning fee (€50–150) may apply.

  • Check vignettes and tolls: Trips to Austria, Switzerland or Italy add vignettes, tolls and sometimes tunnel fees. Get confirmation that these are included in the price – otherwise there are nasty surprises.

  • Use night travel cleverly: For distant ski resorts an overnight journey is popular – the group sleeps and traffic is avoided. But this requires a second driver and driving times agreed in advance. Clarify with the operator early.
